The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle (Paperback)
The second book in the ever-popular Doctor Doolittle series finds the physician who can talk to animals setting sail in search of a missing colleague. Hugh Lofting's Newbery Medal-winning adventure ranges from the Mediterranean and South America to the bottom of the sea. Join the good doctor on a fun-filled adventure with Jip the Dog, Polynesia the Parrot, and more memorable characters.
Doctor Dolittle was born while British civil engineer Hugh Lofting (1886-1947) was serving in the trenches during World War I. When the war news was overwhelmingly depressing or tedious, Lofting wrote fanciful illustrated letters describing the adventures of a physician who could communicate with animals. The first Doctor Dolittle book was published in 1920 and was eventually followed by nine sequels plus two posthumous editions of previously unpublished pieces.
